The information in this Guide is intended for use as educational material to assist landowners, farmers, and their advisors in understanding various laws, regulations, and lease provisions.
UVM - Alternative Tenure Options
There are numerous tenure options available to new farmers. Farmers do not necessarily need to own or hold title to farmland into order to farm it. This page briefly describes the following lease arrangements (both short and long-term), community land trusts and ground leases, cooperative ownership and incubator arrangements.

Agrarian Trust has the mission to support land access for next generation farmers. Their resource list is comprehensive and includes information on accessing land, financial planning, farm law, and succession planning.
